Teens

“It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.”

M. M. Cummings

Teens

The teen years are some of the most confusing & formative years in a person’s life. As such, it can be really helpful for someone join you in the confusing, hard, & messy moments.

In my work with teens, my main focus is creating a safe, trusting relationship. I do not step in and tell them what to do. Rather, we explore options together and I assist them in finding solutions that feel best for them. Each person is different, as are their values, experiences, & goals.

When you’re under the age of 18, you are constantly having other people tell you what to do. Because of this, it can be really challenging to figure out who you are as a person & trust yourself. In our work together, we explore who the individual truly is. Forget about the should's and should not’s!

What every human being wants most in this world is to live a life that feels authentic to them. My mission with every teen is to figure that out what that looks like together.

What are sessions like?

Sessions typically last about 50 min. We can meet in-person or virtually, whatever feels best for the client! No matter where the session takes place, I give the client the time and space to take me where they are at that day & in that moment. Nothing is “off the table”.

Depending on the goals that we establish together, I may incorporate the following into sessions:

  • Grounding/mindfulness techniques

  • Internal Family Systems (AKA parts work)

  • Narrative therapy

  • Personality assessments to assist in deeper exploration of self

  • Sandtray therapy

  • Solution-focused conversation

  • Strengths-based approach

I always encourage my clients to be transparent about what they like/don’t like. This is the client’s time and I’m there to support.

Sandtray Therapy

Does your teen have trouble expressing their thoughts and feelings? One of the most helpful & powerful modalities I utilize with this population is Sandtray Therapy. My office is the home to hundreds of sandtray miniatures, which provides endless opportunities for clients to express themselves.
